Hertsmere Borough Council (hertsmere.gov.uk) is the local planning authority for Potters Bar. The council's Local Plan supports well-designed residential extensions. Permitted development rights apply to most residential properties in Potters Bar, allowing single-storey rear extensions up to 4 metres (or 6 metres under the neighbour consultation scheme) and loft conversions adding up to 40 cubic metres on semi-detached properties.
